Can you believe it's September already? I hope everyone had an amazing first week of school. We're about to have an amazing first school-year meeting of the MCA. I can't wait!

Hello again, everyone!

It's that time of year again. Our bags are packed, our books are bought, our savings accounts are empty from paying tuition, and it's back to school! Another summer is gone again and we're ready to cram our heads full of the knowledge that we'll gain in, and out, of class.

MCA has had an amazing summer and is poised for an even more amazing 2008-2009 school year! We're looking forward to a real constitution and by-laws, as well as our first elections, our first statewide summit at MSU and many other successes, I'm sure. I can't wait to see what we end up doing together.

Please plan on attending MCA's first internet meeting since our live-meeting. We have so many details to hammer out that we absolutely cannot do this without your help. On the agenda for this meeting are: framework wording for our elected board positions, wording for our constitution, MCA's participation in AIDS Walk 2008, MCA's commitment to support the Triangle Foundation, the MCA Summit at MSU this November, marketing strategies, and more! A detailed agenda is listed below.

2. MSU Summit Update (if necessary). MSU Representatives. 5 minutes.

3. Contact email assignments and discussion of contact letter. Andrew Boutcher. 15 minutes.

4. Discussion of leadership structure wording for constitution. 1 hour.

5. Discussion of MCA AIDS Walk participation. Alisa Dean. 15 minutes.

6. Discussion of MCA Triangle Foundation Support. Assignment Triangle support legwork to interested PG member. 15 minutes.

7. Other discussion as necessary.

I hope you attended the first ever MCA retreat last weekend at Alma College. If you didn't, you missed driving on sidewalks, laying on train-tracks, post-its the size of posters, and the shmoo! 'What's a shmoo' you ask? Well you should have been there to find out...

About half of the schools represented on our Planning Group were in attendance, and we even saw quite a few new faces. More importantly, we made a LOT of great progress for MCA! Besides confirming the mission and vision statements as envisioned by our own Nick Rosencrans, we also decided on a structure for our elected board, duties of the board members, set several important pieces of by-law in stone, and got well on the way to a working constitution. We even decided on eight purposes for MCA, and some courses of action that MCA needs to take in the short-term. It was one busy, productive weekend and we all had a blast! Minutes of the meetings will be made available very soon by Kate Miller, our newly elected Interim Records Chair.

Don't let all this success fool you into thinking that MCA doesn't still need your help. There is still lots of work to be done to make MCA the organization that we all know it can be. If you would like to get involved please follow the Email Lists link at the top of this page or click here to find out how. If you know of students, staff, faculty, alumni, or community members who might want to help MCA grow, please encourage them to get involved, as well.

There is a new page on this website dedicated to our newly confirmed mission and vision statements. Click here to be redirected to the mission/vision page. The eight purposes of MCA will be joining them shortly so that many of you who have been questioning the purpose of MCA will have a better idea what MCA does. Hey everyone,

The next Internet meeting is set for Saturday, July 12th at 2pm. As always, please contact Phopp if you are unsure how to attend.

With the first live meeting of MCA looming in only two weeks, we are all very excited to have working drafts of MCA's mission and vision statements to bring to the table. At the next internet meeting, we will be discussing possible leadership structures for MCA so that we can get as much done before the live meeting as possible. Please plan on attending to help us decide what will be best for our campuses and our state.
